This Airbnb had good bones, generous natural light, and several meaningful existing pieces, including antique furniture the homeowners wanted to keep. The opportunity was to bring everything into a more cohesive direction while creating a rental that felt intentional, comfortable, and photographable.
We designed around real guest behavior: where people gather, how many guests need to sit comfortably, what makes a space feel inviting after a long day of travel, and which materials can withstand the demands of a short-term rental.

Improve seating and gathering areas for groups and families
Incorporate existing furniture and meaningful antiques
Design with Elon University visits, football weekends, and business travel in mind
Use durable, practical furnishings appropriate for frequent guest turnover
Create a home that photographs well while remaining comfortable in person

The design direction became an updated Carolina home: warm white walls, blue-gray trim, deep green upholstery, leather, woven textures, vintage wood, blue-and-white patterns, and small accents of rust and red.
The palette gives the home personality without making it feel themed. In the living room, a green sofa, leather recliner, woven lighting, and the existing brick fireplace create a warm gathering space with plenty of visual character.
The dining room layers antique furniture and patterned textiles with a bold checkerboard floor, giving the room a sense of history while keeping it playful and approachable. Throughout the main living spaces, the design balances classic Carolina references with the relaxed, comfortable feel guests expect from a well-designed short-term rental.
